Craft Group ~ Play Silk Dying

The wind whipping through the trees today was perfect for drying our freshly dyed silks ~ don't they look beautiful?

It is so nice to do something that doesn't invove any pins, needles, threads, scissors or very much time... Perfect really for our last crafting day before FestiValley, our spring fair. The weather is not feeling very spring at all tho...winter is doing a final blow through and has us all wrapped up and snuggling heatpacks! let's hope the sun comes out on Saturday.

They look pretty dry, too.

Well, that rainbow - I think it slid on through the heavens and landed on your playsilks. They're gorgeous!!! I know what you mean about the pleasure of taking a break from more involved crafting. It's refreshing. And there is no end to the fun of playsilks. Now I wanna dye some too! Maybe for Christmas gifts.

So beautiful! I would like to dye some for my kids this Christmas...would you happen to know of a good tutorial on dying silks?

Hi,

Could you explain how you did it (materials and instractions?)

Thanks!

I'd love to know if you got the silks locally? I dyed some playsilks for my son a little while ago (http://homemademumma.blogspot.com/2011/05/dyeing-playsilks-with-kool-aid.html), and it was great fun - I bought the silks online from overseas but if there was somewhere local I could get them I would prefer that.

The colours are divine. Good luck with your fair. I wish I could travel up and see ( and buy) all these goodies in real life.

The silks are beautiful Shannon.
Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos.

Dear Nadja and Anonymous - I'm sorry I can give a detailed explanation of the process here, it is a bit complex for a comment; but if you google silk dying I'm sure dozens of clever people have written tutorials.
Cheers.

Dear Shannon,

Thanks for your suggestion. I did a search and found information about it. However I couldn´t find how to dye having more than one colour in one playsilk as you did with your silks. I would really appreciate if you could give some directions.

Thanks and congratulations for your blog!

Cheers!

John

These are just exquisite. I'd love to know how you did them. They look almost magical to me!

Dear John..very carefully is how it is done. Rinse thoroughly between each colour and then overlap blue with yellow to make green, red and yellow to make orange and red and blue to make purple.
Next time I do some dying, maybe in the spring holidays, I will take some pictures and post a mini tutorial of sorts.
