Toadstool applique

Last week I got lost in GardenMama's archives. I started out actually looking for a particular image but somehow clicked the wrong year and found myself back in 2009, I floated wistfully from words to pictures and could possibly have been 'surfing' for an hour when I saw this ~

Picture with permission from GardenMama's post October 2, 2009

Last week when I had that wonderful day of mail the wee girl got a bag full of preloved clothing from a dear friend's little girl; in amongst it was this dress

I unpicked the little label at the bottom and drew a rough picture based on GardenMama's daughters dress, then made some templates, cut my felt and away I went.

The spots need to be sewn onto the toadstool top first, then the stalk onto the dress. I used tiny running stitch.

Overlap your toadstool top onto the stalk and stitch around that too.

Add flowers, or anything else you fancy ~ perhaps nothing at all ~ and you are done.

If you would like to make something similar I have made the templates and brief instructions into a pdf which you can find here.

Thank you! I love toadstools, and I have just got to do this on a pair of pants or a dress to go with the cardigan I made my little girl--http://patchodirtfarm.blogspot.com/2011/02/breath-of-fresh-air.html

I love it!

Nadja, that is one seriously beautiful cardigan on a sweet little girl. I think we should make things like this in grown up sizes don't you?

Very sweet! The red toadstool looks great against the denim.

Lovely!! I have a big hole in the knee of my favorite jeans and am thinking of a patch -- this might be just the ticket. Have you washed it yet? Am wondering what the felt will do in the washer/dryer....

: )

MaryLea, I have washed it and it was fine - L line dried it because that is what we do here in Oz but I imagine it would come to no harm in the dryer because it is commerical felt so is as shrunk (so to speak) as it is going to get. The green running stitch at the bottom is wool tho so that might 'felt' in the dryer - maybe use a superwash wool or leave that bit out?
